Contemporary full calf neatly re-hinged. Copper-plate engravings: an allegorical frontispiece, 1 portrait, an architectural plan of the Martello tower and its gun, 4 Richard Westall engravings depicting notable events in Nelson's naval career, each accompanied by a battle-plan by Nicholas Pocock, 4 more full page engraved plates (21 full-page plates in total), 4 vignettes and 4 facsimile letters and a document, as well as a 2-page fold-out family tree of the Nelson pedigree. Both volumes professionally rebacked with the majority of material. Only about an inch and a half of the spine is lacking at the base, which has been very well imprinted with the original design--both blind stamping and gilt, the spines of both are very bright and attractive, as well as the boards, some foxing on the plates, mostly to the margins, four pages with dime-sized foxing spots (not affecting text), a front endpaper of volume two has been creased, otherwise clean and bright and tight, a fine copy.
